Character InformationGeneralCanon Source: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Canon Format: Anime, primarily, but her history involves scenes that were only covered in a manga spin-off and an audio drama.
Character's Name: Madoka Kaname
Character's Age: She is physically 14, but has mentally lived through a few million years.
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. N/A
What form will your character's NV take? A
pink smartphone. It is able to receive and transmit video, audio and text.
AbilitiesCharacter's Canon Abilities: Madoka is a “Puella Magi”, or a magical girl. This title is given to young girls who have made a contract with an alien creature known as an Incubator and have been granted magical powers. In return for being granted any one wish they desire, these girls must fight monsters.
Unlike most other Puellae Magi her canon, however, Madoka is
insanely powerful. She has the ability to destroy witches that could devour the entire universe, if she chooses to. Her magical bow can shoot multiple high-powered arrows, as well as single shots. (The bow is further detailed in the weapons section below.)
Each Puella Magi’s powers are affected by the wish the girl made. Madoka’s wish was to retroactively erase all witches by her own power, which are magical girls that have become monsters due to either using up all of their magic or falling into despair and depression. This wish allows her to grant Puella Magi a peaceful death, rather than letting them rampage as inhuman creatures that hurt others.
By doing this, she basically erased
herself from existence as well, changing herself from a girl to a physical manifestation of a law of the universe, unable to be seen or at all perceived by anyone other than Homura Akemi (who witnessed her change into a being on another plain of existence) who can only hear her voice, very young children who don’t realize they shouldn’t be able to see her, and dying Puella Magi.
Madoka has the ability to see multiple timelines, including ones where she herself once lived in and died, and she can also see possible futures. Due to her role as a omnipresent being that appears to all Puella Magi when they die, Madoka can appear in any place and time at will, as well.
Madoka’s ability to erase witches before they are created is rather god-modey, and will therefore be sealed by the Core and won’t work in Siren’s Pull. Because that will be leveled down, her existence will be able to be perceived by normal people again.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? N/A
Weapons: Madoka’s main weapon is a bow (seen
here and
here), which is summoned using magic. It has the ability to fire arrows made of pure magical energy that deal a significant amount of damage, enough to eliminate a universe destroying creature in a single shot. She can control the amount of arrows it shoots at once and how powerful each one is individually.

spin-off manga summary.
Point in Canon: Post-episode 12. After Madoka has made her contract with Kyubey, and retroactively erased all the witches that have ever existed or will ever exist throughout history, she has become an existence that has travelled through all mankind’s past and some possible futures. She’s even erased her own witch, causing her existence to change to a separate plane: that of a law of the universe rather than a human being. She meets with her friend, Homura, one final time before she leaves her in the new world she’s created. Madoka will be arriving from after this, just before she goes off to parts unknown with Sayaka.

Character Personality: Madoka is a girl who is at her best when given one thing: a purpose. In various timelines, Madoka was shown to have found her purpose in being a Puella Magi and protecting the people of her home town. She is someone who is willing to give her life and everything she is for a cause that she truly believes in, even if she has no power of her own. Her strong sense of justice and her desire to always do what she feels is right and to help others are the points drive the majority of Madoka’s actions. Madoka even chose to fight monsters for the rest of her life in order to save the life of a stray cat she found that had been run over by a car.
Without anything to devote herself to, however, Madoka finds herself floundering. Her self-confidence is affected by this to the point she becomes rather shy and unsure of herself, especially with her role in life. She is very self-depreciating, thinking she has very little in the way of talent or characteristics that she can be proud of. She considers herself “not very good” at most things she attempts, from school to cooking to sports. While she’s definitely aware of how lucky she is in that she has a loving family and no worries about money, she’s sensitive to the fact she’s acquired none of this herself and that relies on other people in order to get along in life, despite being only fourteen years old. This is most apparent when she speaks. Though almost never very loudly, Madoka’s speaking habits go from calmly assured, measured tones to a hesitant, stilted voice with many “ums” between her words. Her ways of speaking speeds up as though to cover what she knows is an awkward conversation, as well as letting many of her sentences trail off into questions.
Madoka, despite often being timid, is friendly and easily gets along with most people. She isn’t much for rocking the boat unless there’s something seriously wrong going on in front of her. She does notice and remember odd behavior, especially when it intimidates her, but she’s quick to let it go unless it becomes a problem. Even then, she believes this is caused by a difference in personality and failed communication, which are easily remedied by speaking to and getting to know one another.
Though she sits idly by in battles for a good portion of the series, it isn’t by choice. Madoka is the type to take action, even if it’s rash and reckless of her. She is forced to the sidelines by circumstances and people who wish to protect her, but manages to still find ways to insert herself into situations that she should have no reason to involve herself in beyond a desire to help. Though she is thrown in a chaotic and frightening world of inhuman creatures, magic and danger from the start, Madoka confronts it head-on. It isn’t that she doesn’t feel frightened-- it is simply that her fear is not enough to prevent her from doing what she thinks she has to do. For example, even though her friend and an antagonistic new character attempt to fight in front of her, she stops the battle cold by taking away her friend’s source of magical power and throwing it over a bridge.
She is altruistic to a fault. Madoka has shown she is willing to put herself in real, physical danger that she fully understands in order to stand by the people she loves and to help in any way she can, even before she had any kind of power. Being helpless to do anything hurts her, but mostly because she hates not being able to do anything when she sees people are in danger or putting themselves at risk for the sake of others. This is not always a good thing, however; it has caused her to be killed in some timelines, and often gets the people she is trying to help distracted in battle. Despite her good intentions, Madoka often doesn’t have much of a self-preservation instinct when she believes someone needs her support. In the very first episode, she rescued Kyubey from Homura’s attacks without really understanding the circumstances or possible danger, simply because Kyubey asked her for help.
Despite her tendency to not fully realize what her actions might be causing at the moment she commits them, Madoka is fairly clever in her own right. She’s certainly no genius, but Madoka is the only Puella Magi in history to ever be able to beat the Incubators, who contract with them for their own ulterior motives, at their own game, and even manages to preserve the advancements their interference with humanity has brought. Though the power to do this was granted to her by another person (and not even on purpose, at that), Madoka finds a way to make it her own and be at peace with her own decision and role in the world.
Madoka, perhaps unsurprisingly, is nearly incapable of pure hatred, despite being able to call others enemies to herself and to humanity. Even though she has been manipulated and nearly convinced to sell her soul away to either become a monster or die fighting them, Madoka doesn’t hate the Incubators. It hurts her deeply to think that so many girls suffer for their dreams and desires to change their lives for the better, and her most powerful emotion upon learning this is sadness. Her resolve to change their fates appears, and by the end of the series, Madoka has found a purpose that allows her to feel happy even when her loved ones will no longer remember she ever lived. It’s all worth it if she can help Puella Magi across time, so that they might have the hope of a better future and have no need to despair anymore.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Madoka is a very open and friendly girl who has finally found a goal in life. Taking her to Siren’s Pull puts that on hold, and I am interested in playing and developing Madoka’s reactions and growth with that taken away from her and being given back the ability to see and interact with those she knows and those she has yet to meet in return. This is especially interesting to me in Siren’s Pull, where many of the game’s basic principals will be antithesis to Madoka’s altruistic nature.
Appearance/PB: Normal appearance,
first Puella Magi form, and
ultimate Puella Magi form.

First Person Sample[
A pink-haired girl smiles at the camera as soon as the feed begins. She tucks a stray hair behind her ear in a nervous gesture and takes a breath before speaking.]
Um, I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about the schools here...?
[
She waves her hands, gesturing randomly and fiddling with her fingers as she speaks.]
I... didn’t get to finish my second year of middle school back home, so that’s why I was thinking about trying to finish here... Eheh.
[
She laughs, feeling a little awkward about it. It hadn’t occurred to her how bad that might sound out loud, but it’s too late now.]
Ah, anyway, if anyone needs to be escorted through the darkness again tonight, please let me know! I’m always around to help if anyone needs it. Please keep it in mind!
[
Something about her expression firms at this offer. This is something she knows well, something that she can handle. She might not be very dependable when it came to things like jobs and schoolwork, but people in need were something she understood.
With a quick nod, she ends the feed, still smiling.]
Third Person SampleThe sirens had sounded, night had fallen, and the Darkness was upon the city once again. Though it reminded Madoka much of a kind of witch barrier, there was a lack of vivd color and emotion that witch barriers had in excess. It was different enough to give Madoka a sense of unease, but she refused to voice or show it right now. She had a something more important to do.
She didn’t really understand it when she first arrived, and even now, she doesn’t understand it very well. Still, the Darkness is dangerous. It hurts people and, in many cases, actually kills them and forces them to become a part of the horde. In the end, that’s all she needs to know in order to fight it.
With a jump, Madoka leapt onto the next rooftop, only a few feet away in this area where the buildings are all squished together. She stumbled a bit when she hits the surface of it, but managed to stick the landing. She might be able to transport herself anywhere at any time, but that wouldn’t allow her the chance to look for those in need, or the Darkness creeping into a home.
As she moved through the city, she spotted a few of the natives in trouble. Without thinking, she shoots one of her arrows at it and destroys it before moving on. It’s unfortunate that they’re left without someone to comfort them, but she can’t afford for to be seen. She was all too aware of how the Newcomers are viewed by the people born here, and it wouldn’t do for Madoka to draw even more attention to them.
‘
It’s a kind of like... keeping your magic a secret from your parents, isn’t it?,’ she thought to herself, cheered by the idea. It’s a familiar concept she had dealt with many times, to the point it had begun seeming like a normal facet of life. With a smile and a light laugh, she continued ahead, keeping an eye out for any sudden movement.
Nothing was going to get past her tonight, if she had anything to say about it.
